Brightspace Admin Deployment Guide

Register Play With ASL as an LTI 1.3 tool in D2L Brightspace — for LMS administrators.

Overview

Play With ASL: School Edition integrates with Brightspace via 1EdTech LTI Advantage Complete (LTI 1.3 Core, Deep Linking 2.0, Assignment & Grade Services 2.0, Names & Role Provisioning Services 2.0).

Prerequisites

  • Brightspace admin access (Admin Tools → Manage Extensibility → LTI Advantage)
  • A contact at Play With ASL to receive Client ID + Deployment ID after registration
  • Registration method: Standard (manual) — Dynamic Registration is not available yet

Register the Tool

  1. Log in as a Brightspace administrator.
  2. Go to Admin Tools → Manage Extensibility → LTI Advantage → Register Tool.
  3. Enter Basic Tool Information using the values below.
  4. Enter OIDC / JWKS / Redirect values using the values below.
  5. Enable message types:
    • LtiResourceLinkRequest
    • LtiDeepLinkingRequest
    • LtiSubmissionReviewRequest
  6. Recommended placements: Course Navigation, Content, Assignment
  7. Enable services: Assignment and Grade Services, Names and Role Provisioning Services, Deep Linking
  8. Privacy: Send User Name, Email, Role, User ID (User Image optional)
  9. Save; copy the Client ID and Deployment ID.
  10. Send those values plus your Brightspace URL to Play With ASL via Contact (or support@playwithasl.com) so the institution can be activated on our side.

Brightspace generates these at registration. Do not invent values — copy them from Brightspace and send them to Play With ASL.

Instructor: Add Content

After org registration is active:

  1. In a course, go to Content → Add Existing Activities → External Learning Tools → Play With ASL.
  2. For specific games or categories, use Deep Linking content selection when available.

Verify / Smoke Test

  • Tool launches from a course without error
  • Instructor and student launch succeed
  • Deep Linking: instructor can select content and students can open it
  • Grade passback: score appears in the Brightspace gradebook (if AGS is enabled)

Troubleshooting

Common Brightspace LTI issues
Launch fails Recheck tool URLs and domain, HTTPS, redirect URIs, and JWKS URL.
Grades don’t sync Confirm Assignment and Grade Services are enabled, and that the assignment was launched with AGS context.
Framing / cookie issues The tool requires HTTPS. Some browsers restrict third-party cookies in embedded frames.
